Accommodation

Inside the national park there is no place where you can stay. However, you can find accommodation in any of the nearby villages or on the coast.

There is a wide range of accommodation in Lanzarote, both in the closest area to the park (Tinajo and Yaiza) and in the surrounding villages. The island offers you the possibility to stay in different rooms on the basis of your needs, categories, the type of accommodation, and services offered. Where to eat

Inside the national park there is only one restaurant to eat.

Inside the park you can enjoy the island cuisine in the restaurant El Diablo, which is located on the islet of Hilario and depends directly on the Cabildo Insular of Lanzarote.

There are no designated areas for picnics.

In the villages near the park, Tinajo and Yaiza, you can also taste the typical dishes of the island's cuisine in several bars and restaurants.

The food is very simple and tasty, and the most consumed meats are pork, chicken, rabbit (especially in salmorejo, a typical marinade of the Canary cuisine) and goat or kid (cabrito). The fish is varied and fresh, and generally served grilled, fried or in broth (sancocho). The vegetables are eaten in stews and the papas arrugadas con mojo (canarian wrinkly potatoes with sauce) do not go unnoticed to the tourists. The gofio (flour made from roasted grains), with a high nutritional value, can be taken with milk, fruit, cheese or knead with fish broth.

The Malvasia wine predominates over the others, developed with a variety of grapes adapted to the volcanic environment, which are small and of great flavour and perfume.

The weather

The island of Lanzarote, like the rest of the canary archipelago, enjoys a pleasant climate throughout the year.

Like the rest of the islands of the archipelago, Lanzarote has a climate influenced by its geographical location and topography. Since it is closer to Africa, it is more influenced by the winds and Saharan air masses, and by the Atlas, which brings warm temperatures and dust in suspension. The effect of the sea of clouds can be scarcely seen in the North due to the existence of the Risco de Famara, while in the rest of the island, because of the broad flat extensions and the geographical features of low altitude, the sea of clouds can’t be formed.

The Timanfaya National Park, in the Western part of the island, has slightly lower temperatures than those recorded in the East of the island, since it is located on the windward side and exposed to the prevailing winds. The temperatures are generally mild or relatively warm, with moderate changes during the day or throughout the year. Within the national park the higher temperatures are reached near the coast, while the more you move towards the park, the lower the temperature gets. There can be up to 2º C of difference due to the higher altitude at which the Eastern sectors are located.

Rules of Visit

As a protected natural space, the Timanfaya National Park has a few rules of visit to ensure the conservation of the natural resources and values that gave rise to its declaration.

The national park is extremely fragile from an ecological point of view. With the aim of protecting its natural values, as it is set in the Plan for the Use and Management (PRUG) the following actions are not allowed:

The access and movement outside the authorized roads and trails.
Stopping or parking vehicles outside the areas designated for that purpose.
All hunting activities, as well as the introduction of weapons of any kind.
Extracting or collecting plants and animals, alive or dead, and also fragments of them or eggs.
Entering or releasing species wild or domestic animals, as well as disseminating native species of the flora of the park.
Capturing, disturbing, harassing or pursuing wild animals.
Damaging rock formations and collecting or exploiting any type of volcanic material.
Spilling or introducing chemicals or biologically active substances.
The use of kites, model aircraft, balloons, hang-gliding, microlights and fireworks.
Establishing points of sale and lucrative commercial activities.
Making an open air fire, with the exception of the demonstrations on the islet of Hilario.
Performing any type of advertising activities in the park.
Manipulating or removing any type of archaeological remains.
The professional activities of photography, video, cinema, TV or similar in case they have not obtained a license to do so, which must have been previously requested to the board of the Park.

When to come

You can make your visit to the island in any season, due to the mild temperatures that can be felt on the island throughout the year.

Visitors from colder countries prefer the months from December to February, a time that is considered high season, to avoid the low temperatures in their places of origin, while domestic tourism chooses the months between May and October. You can enjoy your visit to the park at any time of the year, even in the coldest months.

Car Rental

If you want to rent a car, remember that you must leave it in the parking lot of the islet of Hilario. The free routes are done on foot and the guided tours are also done walking or by bus, in guaguas enabled by the Cabildo Insular. For more information:

Bus / Guagua

There is no public transport bus service to access the national park, nor any stop in the vicinity of the same.
