Paco Navarro

Francisco Navarro, canarian percussionist born in Firgas, completed his musical studies in the Canary Islands, Barcelona, Zaragoza and Berlin with professors such as Andrej Glizewski, Lorenzo Ferrándiz, Wieland Wetzel, Grati Murcia or Jean Geoffroy.

 As timpani soloist of the Gran Canaria Philharmonic Orchestra from the season 09/10, Francisco Navarro regularly collaborates in different symphony orchestras such as Gulbenkian Orchestra, Euskadi Symphony Orchestra, Barcelona City Orchestra and Catalonia National Orchestra, Bilbao Symphony, OSCyL with conductors such as Vasily Petrenko, Juanjo Mena, Lorenzo Viotti, Trevor Pinnok, Karel Mark Chichón and Gunter Herbig among others.

Member of the JONDE (06/09), he has made tours and concerts in countries like Japan, China, Germany, Scotland, France, England, Belgium with artists such as Fazil Say, Maria Joao Pires, Franz Peter Zimmerman, Janine Jansen and Akiko Suwanai. Interested in solo and contemporary percussion, he has performed recitals in the most important concert halls of the Canary Islands for entities such as the Las Palmas Philharmonic Society or the Foundation Alfredo Kraus Auditorium.

As a solo percussionist he has performed the concerto for timpani and orchestra by Cristóbal Halffter, the concert for percussion and orchestra by J. Roukens – Première in Spain- and the Concerto for Two percussionists and string orchestra of the composer Laura Vega- World Première- , all of them together with the Gran Canaria Philharmonic Orchestra.

Member of the duo Per-QT with David Hernández, he carries out multidisciplinary projects as "Stemlose" and "Drums in the night" as well as educational and pedagogical projects such as "Re-PerQsion" and "5 elements".

In his pedagogical work, Francisco Navarro is a percussion teacher of the OFGC Academy and Director of the Youth Music Band of Firgas. He has been a professor at the Music Conservatory  of the Canary Islands and has taken courses and given masterclasses in Colombia, Poland and Belgium.
