Rowan Pierce

Yorkshire born soprano Rowan Pierce is a Samling Artist. She has  performed in masterclasses with artists including Dame Ann Murray, Olaf Bär, Caroline Dowdle, Simon Keenlyside, Roderick Williams, EllyAmeling, Sir Thomas Allen, Sir John Tomlinson and Dame Emma Kirkby.

She was a Young Artist in Iain Burnside’s Ludlow English Song Weekend, the winner of the Van SomerenGodfery Prize and won the first Schubert Society Singer Prize at the London Song Festival. In 2015 she was an award winner in the Early Music Singing Competition in Poznan.

As a soloist, her festival appearances include: the London Handel Festival, Swaledale Festival, Brandenburg Festival, Brinkburn Festival and Ryedale Festival, where she has performed JS Bach’s Coffee Cantata with Sir Thomas Allen.

She has performed under the direction of conductors including Richard Egarr, Laurence Cummings and Robert Hollingworth and worked in Milan, Bologna, Madrid, Ghent, Cannes, Salzburg and Weimar. She has also performed with leading ensembles including, the Academy of Ancient Music, Florilegium and the Royal Northern Sinfonia.

Rowan was a Britten Pears Young Artist in 2014, playing the role of Drusilla in Monteverdi’s  L’incoronazione di Poppea. Her other operatic roles to date include Susanna in Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro, Miss Wordsworth, Emmie and Cis in Britten’s Albert Herring, Princess in Ravel’s L’enfant et les sortilèges and Second Woman in Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas. Future engagements include performances with the Academy of Ancient Music, the Avison Ensemble, Stadler Quartet and the Cleveland Philharmonic Orchestra as well as  recitals with Christopher Glynn and appearances in the Oxford Lieder Festival, Mattsee Festival and Poznan Baroque Festival.

She is a Midori Nishiura Scholar supported by a Douglas and Hilda Simmonds Award at the Royal College of Music. She studies with Russell Smythe and Gary Matthewman and has worked with Ashley Solomon, Simon Lepper, EiddwenHarrhy, John Blakely, John Fraser and Christopher Glynn.
