Michal Nesterowicz

Since winning the Cadaqués Orchestra European Conducting Competition in 2008, Michał Nesterowicz has gone on to conduct many of the major orchestras and ensembles in Germany, Spain, Switzerland, Italy, France, Poland and the UK.

In the 2015/16 season Nesterowicz will work with Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin for the first time, as well as making debuts at Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw (with Noord Nederlands Orkest), Gulbenkian Orchestra, Buffalo Philharmonic, Residentie Orkest and the Copenhagen Phil.

Building on successes in recent years Nesterowicz will return to NDR Sinfonieorchester Hamburg, Orchestre National de Lille, Orchestre Philharmonique de Nice and Orquesta Ciudad de Granada, as well as continuing his regular relationships with Orquestra Simfònica de Barcelona I Nacional de Catalunya - leading them on tour to France - and Sinfonieorchester Basel.

In his fourth season as Artistic Director of Orquesta Sinfónica de Tenerife, Nesterowicz will conclude the symphonic cycles by Brahms, Schumann and Mahler and will also focus strongly on repertoire by Shostakovich, Mussorgsky and Rachmaninov.

Last season Nesterowicz made successful debuts at Münchner Philharmoniker, WDR Sinfonieorchester, Orchestre Philharmonique du Luxembourg, BBC Symphony Orchestra, Bilbao Orkestra Sinfonikoa, Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Orchestra Filarmônica de Minas Gerais. Other orchestras he has performed with include Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich, Orquesta Sinfónica de Galicia, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Orchestre National Bordeaux-Aquitaine, Orchestra della Svizzera Italia and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra.

Michał Nesterowicz studied at the Wrocław Academy of Music and graduated from the class of Marek Pijarowski in 1997. He was among the winners of the 6th Grzegorz Fitelborg International Conducting Competition in Katowice and has previously been Artistic Director at the Polish Baltic Philharmonic Orchestra (Gdańsk) and Principal Conductor at the Orquesta Sinfónica de Chile.
