Lucas Macias is the Principal Oboist for the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra of Amsterdam with Mariss Jansons and first oboist of the Lucerne Festival Orchestra and principal oboist of the Orchestra Mozart, with Claudio Abbado.
Born in 1978 in Valverde del Camino, Spain. He began studying music at the Conservatorio de Huelva. Later, studied at the Conservatorio Superior de Música in Córdoba. In 1995 he took lessons from Thomas Indermuhle at the Zurich Conservatory.
After two years he was chosen by Heinz Holliger for the Soloist diplomat at Staatliche Hochschule für Musik in Freiburg im Breisgau. He continued his studies at the Geneva Conservatory with Maurice Bourgue and finally at the Karajan Academy in Berlin.
He is invited to perform with all the major International orchestras; Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra (Hessischer Rundfunk), SWR Sinfonieorchester Baden-Baden und Freiburg, Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, Orchestra Mozart, Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, Chamber Orquestra of Europe, Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne, Munich Chamber Orchestra, Camerata Bern, Mahler Chamber Orchestra, Budapest Festival Orchestra, Stadtorchester Musikkollegium Winterthur, Bochumer Symphoniker, Wiener KammerOrchester, Accademia di Santa Cecilia, Scottish Chamber Orchestra, Moscow Soloists, Orquesta Filarmónica de Buenos Aires, Orquesta RTVE, Orquesta Filarmónica de Galicia, directed by maestros as Claudio Abbado, Bernard Haiting, Seiji Ozawa, Pierre Boulez, Charles Dutoit, Leopold Hager, Ivan Fischer, Christoph Poppen y Christian Zacharias, among others.
He has played at international festivals such as le Folle Journée, Festival de Lucerne, Festival de la Cite Lausanne, Berliner Festwochen, Kuhmo Festival, Festival de Davos, Albert-Konzerten Freiburg, Schwetzinger Musikfestival, Bologna Festival, West Cork (Irlanda), MozartFest Wurzburg, Europäischen Musikmonat (Basilea), Festival Internacional de Música de Bogotá.
As a chamber musician, he performs with musicians such Isabelle Faust, Maria Joao Pires, Sabine Meyer, Ton Koopman, Jacques Zoon, Reinhold Friedrich, Giuliano Carmignola and Radu Lupu...
He is a founding member of ]W[ Ensemble formed by wind musicians of the Orchestra of Lucerne who perform different programs and offer a variety musical esthetics.
His last recording is the Mozart Oboe Concerto and Haydn Sinfonia Concertante, for the Swiss label Claves Records, with Orchestra Mozart of Bologna and Maestro Claudio Abbado.
This work has been awarded as best cd in concert category at the International Music Awards (ICMA 2015).
Lucas Macías has also recorded Brandenburg Concertos and Sinfonia Concertante for Four winds with Orchestra Mozart and Claudio Abaddo for Deutsche Grammophone label.
He teaches at the Hochschule für Musik in Freiburg.
